Cancellation PuzzlesĬancel puzzles are yet another variation of the black and white squares puzzle, but with green and red lights instead. Note that squares of the same color can be in the same region of your solution. The rules remain the same as the white and black squares puzzle despite the additional complexity.Īs seen above, you need to ensure that your path cuts between all the various colors and separates them. Instead of only having to separate two colors of square, there are three or even four colors present that all have to be separated into different sections. The colored squares puzzle is a variation of the black and white squares puzzle. Continue to find the boundaries where white squares touch black squares, separate them, and you can safely ignore groups of the same color. Later in the game you’ll notice that these black and white squares will be grouped in complex ways. Squares of the same color can remain in the same region of the solution. As seen above, the paths cut between the black and white squares before heading to the endpoint. What you need to do to meet the requirements of this puzzle type is use your path to separate any black squares from adjacent white squares. The white and black squares puzzle is frequently encountered, especially as it evolves into more complex variations later in the game.

It might seem impossible at first, but you’ll figure it out in time. Later in the game if you see a puzzle that has a black dot on every single grid, you may be surprised to learn that you have to path through the entire puzzle board in order to complete it. In the image above you’ll notice that four black dots are left uncleared, resulting in an incomplete puzzle. Overall, the third best episode of Season 11 and one of the few good episodes of the season. When you see black dots on a puzzle board, what you must do is ensure that your path from start to finish overlaps all of these dots. The team dynamic is still pleasing and well-used. The acting is very good, the performances of Charlie and Mitchell have already been mentioned but Matthew Gray Gubler and Joe Mantegna stand out of the regulars. The script is thought-provoking and tightly structured, with nice moments with Reid and Rossi. It also has haunting use of music without being melodramatic and the end song provides suitable melancholy. As ever, it is a beautifully made episode and well-directed. Mitchell is portrayed with magnificent malevolence also. Tim Kang is a revelation in the role, giving a performance of great intensity and touching vulnerability, his desperation apparent every step of the way. Charlie and Mitchell are two of the season's most interesting and memorable supporting characters, particularly the wonderful showpiece that is the character of Charlie. It also is one of the few episodes of Season 11 that doesn't lose sight of what makes 'Criminal Minds' so great. Luckily it doesn't feel disjointed, and does not suffer from the "too many cooks spoiling the broth" that doomed the rushed, too over-cluttered and underdeveloped "Target Rich" (very much a lesser episode of the show. On the whole "The Witness" does a great job with two seemingly disconnected stories, tied together tautly and with great suspense and tension. She also has some lovely chemistry with Reid here. However, she is not as big problem here in "The Witness", she doesn't add an awful lot but she doesn't bring things down anywhere near as much as she has often done. Much has also been said in general to Season 11 that the character of Tara Lewis is a disconnected and dull character that doesn't gel with the team, and Aisha Tyler's acting has also been criticised, both criticisms this reviewer shares. Mitchell foreseeing he would do that isn't explained really and doesn't make sense. Sure it's not flawless, Charlie going to the FBI building was a truly stupid decision and realistically the last thing he should have done (am well aware he wasn't thinking straight but still).

But it is a third best with the better-than-given-credit-for "Beautiful Disaster" (though Morgan's exit arc generally could have been better handled) coming in fourth.

It's not as good as "The Job" and especially "Entropy", two of the better episodes of the latter seasons. To me, actually, it is one of the better episodes of the season and one of about only three or four episodes that are good in a season that has been largely average at best and poor at worst. From personal opinion it's not even close, and is not even the worst or even one of the worst of Season 11. Have to respectfully disagree with the previous reviewer about "The Witness" being the worst 'Criminal Minds' episode ever.
